A lot has changed since 1946, the year in which Vandersluis was founded by Gijs and Leo van der Sluis. Since then Vandersluis has grown along with the society which can be seen in the products and their application.
In the years following the second world war, the years of reconstruction, the practical use of products at a competitive price was most important. This is evident, for example, from the furniture Vandersluis constructed for schools.
In the sixties design became more important. Growing prosperity caused an increasing focus on the appearance of products. A beautiful example is the bank 540, a convertible sofa in which great modern design is combined with practical use.
Following the 1950s and 1960s in which Vandersluis had grown firmly, the products of Vandersluis became more versatile, with products for meeting and recreation spaces to classrooms and conference rooms. The core value of Vandersluis, quality in design and application, remained paramount throughout these years.
